Della-Marie Potter

Della-Marie Potter, 59, of Mooresboro, NC passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

She is survived by her parents, Jerry and Della Richardson, her husband of 38 years, William "Billy" Potter, their two sons, Ryan Potter (Hunter Thompson) and Casey (Holly) Potter, two grandchildren, Jack and Zoe, three sisters, Patte (Nathan) David, Elizabeth (Billy) Goff, Tina (Danny) Erwin,

one brother Joshua (Rachelle) Richardson; nieces Kendall (Cole) Wright, Tabitha (Melvin) Edwards, Jaiden Goff, Helen ("Ellie") Richardson, Skylar Goff, nephews, Chandler (Lacey) David, James Richardson, Logan Goff, Walter Richardson, great nieces Sawyer and Sloane Wright and great nephew Haden Wright along with many friends and a menagerie of pets that she loved dearly.

Della-Marie was born on July 7th, 1965 in Miami, Florida and attended Homestead high school, where she met her high school sweetheart, Billy. Her whole life she knew how to live and appreciate every moment. Whether it be a trip to the grocery store or jumping out of an airplane, everything was an adventure for her. Della-Marie had many passions and careers along the way. When she was younger, she did magic, twirled baton, and was a Hurricane Honey. When she got older she worked as an air/sea consultant at Carnival Cruise Lines in Miami, FL and at one point even wanted to be a lawyer and studied Psychology and Criminal Law. She ultimately became a caregiver and teacher of many children as well as a stay-home mom and wife which was the most rewarding of all; she loved sharing her knowledge, most notably in American Sign Language (ASL). She dedicated her life to taking care of people (and animals!) and her legacy will live on through them.

Della-Marie loved like no one else in the universe. She married her high school sweet heart and it was evident to anyone that saw them that their love was as strong as the day they met. He was her great love story, one that most people never experience in a million lifetimes. If there ever is such a thing as soul mates it was Della-Marie and Billy. She loved living in the breathtakingly beautiful mountains of NC and the adventures she and Billy would go on, just exploring the countryside, driving and finding the quaintest places to visit. She was an avid reader, collector of books, talented flautist, and loved learning everything she could and was most recently learning to sew. She also loved strawberries, genealogy, animals, trees, the Earth, but most of all, her family and friends.

To say she will be missed is truly an understatement. Her personality, her life, and everything she was couldn't possibly be summed up in a thousand books, let alone this one page. Being in her presence was like being amongst the company of the sun, the moon, and all of the stars at once.

Services for Della-Marie will be held Saturday, December 21st, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Cecil Burton Funeral home in Shelby, NC. The receiving of friends will immediately follow the service.
