Delores Amy Hughes Young

Delores Amy Hughes Young, 78, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, surrounded by the ones who meant the most to her while in an elevated spirit within her home.

Delores was born on September 4, 1946, in Gaston County, NC, to the late Walter and Prudence Hughes.
She was a 1964 graduate of Lincolnton Academy High School. Shortly after high school, Delores started her career at Spectrum Dye. She then became employed by Glen Raven, working as a spinner. After the closure of Glen Raven, she left there to work at Patrick Yarn. She retired from Patrick Yarn as a Secretary.
Delores met the love of her life, Joyce Dean Young, in high school. They were beloved to each other and joined hand in marriage in Cherokee County in 1964, where they spent $15 to say their vows!
Delores was a proud member of the Women's International Bowling Association, where she was awarded 125 pins per series. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. In her active years, she served her time singing on the church choir. She was a die-hard sports fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Delores is now in the comfort of God's presence, but while in the earthly realm, she was a loving petite woman. We all agree that she had a precious soul inside and out. Delores loved everyone, especially those whom she called family, her community, her church, and her biological family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sibling, Louis Bradley and grandson, Jimmy Robbs, Jr.
Delores leaves behind her compassionate husband of 61 years, Joyce Dean Young; sons, Gregory D. Young (Aleta) and John W. Young (Bridget), all of Kings Mountain, NC; stepson, Jimmy Robbs (Stephanie) of Shelby, NC; seven grandchildren, Victoria Young, Michael Young, John Young, Jr., Faron Young Muskelly (Tony), and Monterrio Robbins, Justin Robbs and Elaina Robbs; and numerous great grandchildren. She also treasured her nephew Rodney Bradley (Betty) of Gastonia, NC; special niece, Tandra Marable; cousins, David Bradley and Diedre Adams Falls; and Godson, James Roberts, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, NC
