Dewitt "Bud" Ledbetter
Dewitt "Bud" Ledbetter, age 90, of Wilson Drive, Forest City, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Hospice House in Forest City.
Born June 15, 1927 in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Aaron Luther Ledbetter and Lydia Pearl Beheler Ledbetter. Bud worked forty years for Fieldcrest Mills and was a longtime and active member of the Alexander United Methodist Church. He served as a deacon of the church and kept up the church lawn for years. Bud's main hobby was raising chickens which led to his nickname of the "Chicken Man." He also enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Betty Mae Ledbetter; a great-granddaughter, Amber Nicole Greene; six sisters and four brothers.
Those left to cherish his memory include four sons, Michael Dewitt Ledbetter and wife, Elizabeth of Forest City, Larry Douglas Ledbetter of Bostic, Kendall Scott Ledbetter and wife, Brenda and Jeffery Todd Ledbetter and wife, Ginger all of Forest City; one daughter, Deborah Elaine Greene and husband, Harold also of Forest City. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Alexander United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. James Powell, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Alexander Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. At other times they will be gathered at 168 Wilson Drive, Forest City.
