Don McSwain

Don McSwain peacefully passed away Monday, January 16, 2023 at his home surrounded by his wife and children.

Although Don was born in Shelby, his military service of 36 years allowed him to live all over the United States and in Germany for 5 years, as well as serve 1 year in Vietnam.

While working in the cotton mill, Don became a Christian and then felt the calling to become a minister. He led many people to follow Jesus. He pastored 3 civilian churches: Sharon Baptist Church, Bells Baptist Church and Sandy Plains Baptist Church, as well as many military chapels around the world. Don was passionate about fishing, reading, golf and he felt a great love for all animals, domesticated and wild. He loved traveling, especially leading tours to Jerusalem.

His greatest love was for his wife Rachael, his children, Deborah (Matt Gregory), David, and Terri (Eric Kiss), as well as his 4 grandchildren David, Rachel (Dillon Dunn), Karis and Micah. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Nell McSwain, his siblings, James ("Bud"), Larry, Jane Rearick, and David Whitney.
