Donald Glen Carpenter, 76, of Shelby, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018
at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.

Born in Cleveland County on April 23, 1941 he was a son of the late J.D.
Carpenter and Jessie Pearl Whisnant Carpenter. He retired from Roadway
Express in 1996 with thirty-three years in the trucking industry and was a
member of Union Baptist Church. Don served proudly in the US Marine Corp
and was classified as an expert rifleman.

Don was an avid reader. He always enjoyed reading about Bob Dylan, the
American singer, songwriter, author and painter. "The Star" was also a big
part of his day.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Carla
Lynn Carpenter and sister, Helen Hutchens.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Wortman Carpenter, whom he shared fifty
wonderful years; son, Jeffery Glen Carpenter and wife, Kari of Hickory;
granddaughter, Allisyn Lynn Carpenter; brother Larry Carpenter and wife,
Nancy of Casar; sister, Shelia Carpenter Morrow of Casar; and half-brother,
Robert Price.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Union Baptist Church
Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Shumate officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service at the graveside.
