Donald "Moon" Walker, age 69, of Forest City, NC formerly of Shelby, NC, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Holly Springs Senior Home.
Born June 24, 1948 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Reverend Bill Walker and Eva McDaniel Walker. Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He worked for various saw mills in the area and retired from Glenn Lumber Company in Boiling Springs, NC. Donald was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed going to motorcycle rallies in Florida with his niece, car races and watching Duck Dynasty.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, who raised him, Rebecca Hoyle Cogdell Walker; seven siblings, Billy Ray Walker, Hazel Walker, Charles Walker, Gene Walker, Joe Walker, Kathleen Cohen and Diane Cogdell Keeter.
Those left to cherish his memory include two sisters, Peggy Johnson and husband, Gary of Harris and Doris Lowery of Forest City and two sisters-in-law, Peggy Walker of Georgetown, Florida and Annie Mae Walker of Morganton.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Scott Butler officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. At other times the family will be gathering at 399 Hogan Rd., Forest City, NC. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the NC Army National Guard Honor Unit.
The family wishes to thank Mary Phillips, J.B. Hudson, Dr. Herington and Holly Harris at the VA Medical office, all the nurses who attended to Donald, the staff of Hospice of the Carolina Foothills and Holly Springs Senior Home for the love and care given to Donald during his illness.
The family will be gathering at 399 Hogan Rd., Forest City, NC.
