Donnis Irene Jones Smith, age 88 of Ellenboro, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

Shel is survived by her children, Connie Burgess (Eddie) of Ellenboro, NC, and Helen Emery (David Hamrick) of Shelby, NC, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born April 5, 1934, in Rutherford County, NC, Donnis was the daughter of the late Odell and Louis Smart Jones and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Donald Richard Smith, a son, Ricky Smith, a daughter, Diane Hodge, three brothers, Clyde Jones, G.W. Jones, and Max Jones, and a sister, Shirley White.

Donnis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a faithful member of Pilgrim Baptist Church where she had played the piano. Donnis enjoyed traveling with her senior groups and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Cleveland Funeral Services conducted by Rev. Bruce Duncan. A visitation will be held from 10:00am - 11:00am prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
