Dorcas Lee Tessner Hunnicutt

Dorcas Lee Tessner Hunnicutt passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Cleveland Pines in Shelby, NC. Born in Cleveland County on June 26, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Lily Belle Tessner. She was married to Rev. John D. Hunnicutt for over 65 years, from November 9, 1945 until his death in 2011.

To all who knew Dorcas, knew that beside her family, her greatest joy was cooking for others. She was a cook second to none. She had many specialties and family favorites, too many to mention. In the evenings, she poured over her recipe books, some worn and tattered and some newer that were gifts, planning her next "experiment" by often putting her own spin on a given recipe.

Dorcas enjoyed watching as many cooking shows that she could and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, following all their games. She was a devoted preacher's wife and mother, and a thoughtful and caring grandmother. Each grandchild was special to Dorcas and all will carry dear memories of her many acts of love and thoughtfulness.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Albert Tessner, Loren Tessner, and Griffin Tessner.

Dorcas is survived by a sister, Bertie Crawford and two sons, Bob Hunnicutt (Jan) and Barry Hunnicutt (Patti) and grandchildren, Travis Hunnicutt (Cyndi), Tanya Wiley (David), Tara Calton (Tim), Jeremy Walker (Angela), Haley Suttle (Robby), Emily Hunnicutt Clary, Zachary Hunnicutt, and Rachel Hunnicutt, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

There was a private graveside service held. The family was honored and greatly appreciative to have Tina Pearson present to sing Dorcas' favorite hymns and share some prayers with her loved ones.

Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
