Doris Hamrick Tedder

Doris Hamrick Tedder, age 89, passed peacefully to her heavenly home, surrounded by her children, on Friday, November 9, 2018. Born in Cliffside, she was the daughter of the late Barney Lewis Hamrick and Bertha Splawn Hamrick. She grew up in Shelby and graduated from Shelby High School. She performed secretarial work at Blue Ridge Insurance for several years. She married Thomas N. "Pete" Tedder and they raised their family in Shelby.

Mrs. Tedder was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Shelby where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout den leader, and was a member of the WMU and round-table book club. She enjoyed music, reading and was a lifetime learner. She was also known to many as a great cook. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and was so proud of each and every one of her children and grandchildren. Above all, she will be remembered for the faithful and devoted care she extended to those she loved.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas N. "Pete" Tedder, brothers, Herman Hamrick and Bruce Hamrick, and sisters, Louise Hamrick Forbis and Mary Hamrick Lee.

Doris is survived by her sons, Tommy Tedder and wife Catherine of Spring Hill, TN, Richard Tedder and wife Kim of Shelby, and her daughter Patti Bitter and husband John of Charlotte, as well as nine grandchildren, Gray Tedder, Whit Tedder, Daniel Tedder, Katherine Tedder, Sarah Tedder, Julia Tedder, Caroline Bitter, Jack Bitter, and Sam Bitter.

The family would like to extend their great appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Ann and Jeff Patterson, Sheila Mode, Keri Bryant, and Denise Hess. Their devoted support allowed Mrs. Tedder to remain in her home as her health declined.

A service to celebrate Mrs. Tedder's life will be held Thursday at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28150.

Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Mrs. Tedder.
