Dorothy "Dot" Dellinger Blalock

Dorothy "Dot" Dellinger Blalock, age 89, died Friday May 29, 2015 at her home.

Born on August 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Junius Clarence and Dona Bell Sellers Dellinger. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by five brothers, J. Clarence Dellinger Jr., Harold Dellinger, Thomas Dellinger, Lester Dellinger, and Herman Dellinger; and two sisters, Ann Childers and Ruby Hubbard.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and is survived by her loving husband of over 64 years, Calvin M. Blalock. Along with him, two sons, Greg Blalock and wife Chrystal of Shelby; Chris Blalock and wife Pat of Ellenboro; six grandchildren, Jack Blalock, Katy Blalock, Emma Blalock, Nathaniel Blalock and wife Katelyn, Whitney Blalock and Ian Blalock and wife Haley; one great grandson, Leyton Blalock; one brother, Max Dellinger and wife Gloria of Cherryville; two sisters, Kay Marks and husband Kenneth and Gail Peele and husband Charly all of Lincolnton; two sisters-in-law, Margie Dellinger and Faye Dellinger both of Cherryville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dot was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church of Shelby where she had been active in the ladies group. She was a former bookkeeper for Mauney Cotton Company, J. Robert Lindsey Company, Brown Hopper Motors, Crawley / Carter Chevrolet, and Shelby Savings. Later she established Unique Treasures where she specialized in antique sales and appraisals, custom framing and home interior design. She also did estate sales in six counties for many years.

She enjoyed painting, needle point and was an excellent seamstress, even making her own wedding dress. She also enjoyed herb gardening and was a former member of the Cleveland County Herb Society.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Ascension Lutheran Church in Shelby, NC with The Rev. Christina Auch officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
