Dorothy (Dot) Jenkins Hicks of 3010 Charles Road Shelby, NC passed away May 1, 2021.

A native of Cleveland County, NC she was born August 26, 1921, the daughter of the late Robert and Odessa Jenkins. A graduate of Gardner-Webb Junior College and Wake Forest University, she was a lifelong supporter of each institution. She taught 26 years at Marion Elementary School in Shelby where she was chosen "Teacher of the Year" in the 80s. She was a past president of Cleveland County Retired School Personnel and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a distinguished national teacher's sorority. Dot greatly enjoyed teaching and community activities.

Dot greatly enjoyed her church activities as a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Shelby. She taught Sunday School for over 35 years and served on various committees.

She also loved the Shelby Christian Women's Club and served on the board for several years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Linzie R. Hicks, a sister, Margaret Waldrop, and a brother Robert Jenkins, Jr.

She is survived by one son, Steve Poston and wife Beverly of Matthews, a daughter Gloria Helton and husband Frank of Boiling Springs, a daughter Beth P. Lindemann of Boiling Springs, a sister-in-law, Pat Jenkins of Shelby, grandchildren Jennifer Helton, Heather Walton (Matt), John Lindemann (Megan),Tiffany Lindemann (Tori), Stephen Helton (Tori), and seven great-grandchildren, Knox Walton, Hannah Helton, Georgia Lindemann, Sadie Lindemann, Karis Walton, Kannon Lindemann, and Cash Lindemann.

The family will receive friends at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, May 7, 2021 from 6:00pm-7:30pm. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.

The family has requested that those in attendance wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
