Earth Day celebration set for KM's Gateway Trail

If the warm spring weather has got you itching to get outside and enjoy nature, mark Saturday, April 21, 2018, on your calendar. That is the day for "Earth Day at the Gateway Trail" in Kings Mountain, and the celebration offers a wide array of activities to enjoy all the things that make spring great in Cleveland County. The event will be held from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Gateway Trail, 807 South Battleground Avenue, in Kings Mountain.
Music during the celebration will be provided by the Timber Twigs String Band and the Martin Grass String Band.
"More than 50 exhibitors that range from community organizations, crafts vendors and and more," says Christy Conner, special events coordinator for Kings Mountain's Main Street Program.
Food vendors will also be available throughout the day.
"We are excited that one of our exhibitors will be the Scrap Exchange of Durham," says Conner. "This organization is a non-profit group dedicated to promoting creativity, environmental awareness and community through reuse." Those interested in learning more about the Scrap Exchange can visit Scrapexchange.org for details.
"Another highlight of the day will be an appearance by Spencer Bolejack, who is known as the co-host of the Discovery Channel's 'Hillbilly Blood' and as the author of The Appalachian Ninja," says Conner. Bolejack will be providing spontaneous learning demonstrations throughout the day and will have a featured demonstration at 2:30 p.m. that will highlight his skills and expertise.
Admission is free for the Earth Day event, and overflow parking will be provided across the street from the trail head and along Quarry Road. For more information, call 704-734-0333 or visit www.cityofkm.com.
"Come out, celebrate our beautiful earth and enjoy a walk on the Gateway Trail," says Conner.
