Elaine Maurer Stewart, age 85, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at her home in Shelby. Born on July 14, 1933, in Meadows IL she was the daughter of the late Hugh Harry Maurer and Gaynell Rice Maurer. She was a former member of Grace Baptist Church in Woodbridge VA and was currently a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby, she modeled her faith and prayed often with and for her children, and she will be remembered for the generosity she extended to others. Elaine started her working career with the FBI and later continued with Inova Healthcare as an oncology nurse after obtaining her masters degree from The Catholic University of America and she did not retire until the age of 77. In her retirement she loved to spend her time reading and had exhausted the resources of the church library, reading every book. She placed a high value on education and encouraged all four of her sons in their pursuit of college degrees. She enjoyed her family and spent time with them often, traveling with them on many adventures.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Delano Stewart, two sisters, Helen Johnstone and Eloise Carpenter, and one granddaughter, Christine Stewart.

Elaine is survived by four sons; David Stewart and wife Hope, Don Stewart and wife Kathy, Steve Stewart and wife Rita, Michael Stewart and wife Catherine, two sisters; Joan Peery and Iris Maurer, six grandchildren; Sharon Andrews and husband Thomas, Kate Stewart, Tom Stewart and wife Lauren, Amy Custer and husband Brad, Elizabeth Stewart and Ellen Stewart as well as two great-grandchildren; William and Bethany Andrews.

Funeral Service will be held 3:00 pm, Sunday March 10, 2019 at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Rit Varriale. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 pm until 3 pm in the church sanctuary.
