Elizabeth Ardelle McGinnis Thompson, age 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at CaroMont Health in Gastonia NC.

Born in Cleveland County on January 25, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Faye and Albert McGinnis. Ardelle graduated from Boiling Springs High School and later continued her education at Howard Business School. She retired from Belk department store in Shelby after 16 years of service. Ardelle was a longtime member of Mulls Memorial Baptist Church as well as Dover Baptist Church in Shelby and enjoyed reading Christian Fiction novels and other literature. Most importantly, she loved being with family. Ardelle was preceded in death by her Sister Margaret Ann Powell.

Ardelle was survived by her husband Alvin Glenn Thompson of 61 years. She is also survived by her son Wesley "Wes" and his wife Linda of Statesville; One daughter Mary Weaver and Husband Chet of Kings Mountain and her grandchildren who knew her as "Mimi", Katie and husband Clark Dotson of Troutman and Mason Weaver of Kings Mountain.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday March 17, 2021 at 2:00pm at the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Dr. Ervin Price and Rev. Dr. Wade Dellinger officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00 -2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
