Elizabeth "Lib" Austin Sullivan

Elizabeth "Lib" Austin Sullivan, age 90, died Friday, March 4, 2016, at Hospice Wendover. Born in Union County on November 26, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John Walkup and Winnie Ella Porter Austin. Lib was married to Ralph Parker Sullivan on September 3, 1949. They lived in Stanley from 1949-1968 where she was an active volunteer for the Gaston County American Red Cross, First Baptist Church (formerly Bruington Memorial), and the Stanley Lion's Club. She was a nurse for Dr. B. G. Weathers, Sr. and later for Dr. James Forrester. In 1968, the family moved to Shelby and joined First Baptist Church. She was a member of the WMU, Wacaster Bible Study Group, and the "Faith and Love" Sunday School Class. Volunteer activities included American Red Cross, Lion's Club Food Giveaway Program, and Hospice. Lib enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several clubs. In 1969, she began working as an office nurse for Dr. John B. Hunter. She later worked for Dr. Richard Hardeman, and Dr. Thomas M. Moss. She retired from nursing in 1993. In addition to her parents, Lib is preceded in death by a brother, Richard Porter Austin.

Lib is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ralph Parker Sulllivan; a son, Daniel Austin Sullivan, Sr. and wife Pamela of Oviedo FL; three daughters, Jane Sullivan Will and husband Robert of North Wilkesboro, Mary Sullivan Campbell of Shelby, and Sarah Beth Sullivan of Tallahassee, FL; a sister, Sarah Austin Frost of Dublin GA; a brother, William Neal Austin of Richmond, VA.; and six grandchildren, Bryan Curtis Will of Raleigh, Thomas Parker Will of Philadelphia, PA, Amy Elizabeth Will of Greensboro, Daniel Austin Sullivan, Jr. of Oviedo, FL, Parker Sullivan Campbell of Shelby, and Matthew Taylor Campbell of Shelby.

A guest register will be available at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. The family will have a private graveside service in Gaffney, SC.

The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Rebecca Love of Hospice Palliative Care, Dr. James Potts and the entire staff at Wendover Hospice House, and their love to Lib's dearest friends, Jeanne Eskridge and Sheree Dotson.
