Elizabeth Smith Cartee, age 87, of Rutherfordton, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born June 25, 1929 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late Charlie E. Smith and Lottie Bivens Smith. She worked in the textile industry for forty years and later as a car transporter. Elizabeth was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed listening to Blue Grass Music, going to dances and "looking good."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Broadus West and second husband, Eulus Cartee; one grandson, Mark West; three brothers, Grover, Fred and Buddy Smith; three sisters, Ozel Ensley, Ola Mae Murray and Annabelle Swicegood.
Survivors include one son, Archie West and wife, Rose Marie of Rutherfordton; two granddaughters, Lisa Nelon and husband, Brian of Rutherfordton and Lori Henson and husband, Robert of Savannah, Georgia; grandson, Matt West of Rutherfordton; brother, Joe Smith and wife, Marie of Bostic; sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith of Bostic. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Scruggs, Sandy Jonas, Brook Powell, Christian Hill, Brad Nelon, Brittany Morlang, Trey Henson and ten great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Green Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Tommy Hutchins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church.
