Elmer G. Lewis,
Elmer G. Lewis, age 89, of Spindale, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born on October 4, 1926 in Harlan County, Kentucky, he was a son to the late Elijah Lewis and Arwillie Creech Lewis. Elmer was a WWII United States Army veteran, and was a part of the first occupational forces in Germany. He retired from Waste Water Management in Detroit, Michigan after 35 years of service. Mr. Lewis was an alumni member of Warren Wilson in Swannanoa, NC and a Lifetime Masonic Lodge Member, Bledsoe, Kentucky in Pine Mountain. He enjoyed woodworking, pheasant hunting and duck hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Herb Lewis, Owen Lewis, Omer Lewis, Darwin Lewis; and one sister, Eva Warfield.
Survivors include his two daughters, Debra Dale of Spindale, Karen Keck and husband Michael of Rutherfordton; one sister, Una Warfield of Gordon, Kentucky; one brother, Arnold Lewis and wife Faye of Kingsport, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Charles Lewis, Ashley Felker, Shaun Dale, Gary Dale and his wife Jennifer; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Lewis, Leah Lewis, Hunter Dale, Joseph Lewis, Carter Dale; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Pleasant View Community Church with Reverend Danny McCain officiating.
