Emanuel Meeks Sr.

Emanuel Meeks Sr. transitioned to eternal peace on Tuesday, August 21, 2024 at Kings Mountain Care, Kings Mountain NC.

He made this home over the last five years and staff there became his second family while delivering superb care.
He was the son of the late Robert Edward Meeks and Maggie McCluney Meeks and a native of Hickory Grove, SC but later found residence in NC. After graduating from Camp High School, he was drafted on December 1, 1952 to serve in the Army and fought during the Korean War. He ranked as Corporal and was honorably discharged on November 23, 1954.
Emanuel later attended Friendship College, Rock Hill, SC and learned Brick Masonry and Carpentry. He took pride in the craft, often worked building and creating different projects. Later he held numerous jobs, but was last employed with Lithium Corporation of America, where he retired.
His greatest past time was fishing and would he was often featured in the Shelby Shopper with the evidence of the "biggest" fish story. Though fishing was his top hobby choice, nothing topped the love for his grandchildren. You could always catch him bragging on their accomplishments.
Emanuel loved gospel singing and displayed his love while a choir member of First Baptist Church in Earl, NC. He also served as a deacon during his membership there. Though no longer attending, he never forgot his home church, St Peter's Baptist Church and often attended Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
Emanuel was preceded in death by his wife, Rosell Moses Meeks; grandson Sherwood Lockhart Jr.; brothers BJ Meeks and Necoda Meeks.
He leaves to cherish his children, Emanuel Meeks Jr. (Carolyn). Franciscan Meeks (Peace Reid), and Sherwood Lockhart Sr. (Gloria). If you knew Emanuel, you could always depend on a plethora of witty knowledge even until Alzheimer's robbed him of his memory. However, he never forgot his siblings, especially his three sisters, Ozzie Mae Smith, Monicue Meeks, and Shirley Smith, who always rode his shoulders to school (per him). Emanuel is also survived by five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at S. T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at St. Peter Baptist Church, Grover, NC.
