Ervin Michael Canipe, of Shelby passed away October 21, 2026. "Mike" was born April 15th, 1955, in Casar, North Carolina to the late Vance Canipe and Annie Hull Canipe of Casar. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Vance Canipe.

He grew up in Casar where he graduated from Burns High School. Growing up, he was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Casar. He was always complimentary of the Brackett family of Casar who always gave him special care and ensured that he went to church as a child and young man.

Later in his life, his special friend, John Laughlin, gave him care, friendship, a job, and a family at Laughlin Furniture. Mike continued his faith journey as an active member of The Abundant Life Faith Ministries Church in Shelby and a regular attendee of "A Glimpse of the Kingdom Ministries" in Shelby.

Mike was a simple man who enjoyed simple pleasures in life. He especially enjoyed spending time with those he loved and talking on the phone to his friends. Nothing made Mike smile more than a good hot biscuit or home-cooked meal or reading a letter from a friend. He would regularly be found walking in the morning around uptown Shelby. He enjoyed cool, crisp mornings where the sun shined the brightest. He was a dedicated and loyal teammate at Laughlin Furniture in Shelby for many years. Mike would always welcome his friends and work family with a hug, high five, or a joke.

His friends will have a Celebration of Life Service and reception on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 2:00 at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

He will be interned in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, Casar.
