Evelyn McSwain Simpson, age 87, died Friday, January 19, 2018 at Caromont Regional Hospital in Gastonia. Born in Cleveland County on February 14, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Drury Reuben and Ollie Vera Putnam McSwain. Evelyn retired from Doran Mills where she worked as a cloth grader. In her spare time, Evelyn enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Robert Preston Simpson, two brothers, Reuben McSwain and Clifton McSwain; two sisters, Reba Moss, Rena McGinnis; granddaughter, Mary Jane Shytle

Evelyn is survived by two sons, Robert Preston Simpson Jr. and wife Beverly of Earl, Kenneth Mark Simpson and wife Susan of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Wanda Kay Shytle and husband David of Shelby; a sister, Martha Johnson of Shelby; sister-in-law, Willie Sue McSwain of Titusville FL. seven grandchildren, John Shytle and wife Shannon, Amy Vinesett and husband Cliff, Nathan Simpson and wife Anna, Nolan Simpson and fiancee Caroline Bradley, Nick Simpson, Matthew Simpson and wife Elizabeth, and Milia McAbee and husband Tanner; twelve great grandchildren, River Simpson, Hunter and Lilly McAbee, Maegen Shytle, Devyn Shytle, Mary Beth Davis, Ginny Davis, Max Davis, Garrett Weathers, Kaylin Weathers, Morgan Vinesett, Riley Vinesett; adopted family, Joann and Johnny Lankford; and a host of other loving family.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Russ Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary an hour before the service from 1;00 pm until 2:00 pm.
