'Fantasy Light Show' brightens downtown KM

The City of Kings Mountain continues to celebrate the Christmas Season in a big way with its Downtown Christmas Fantasy Light Show featuring thousands of LED lights in all colors animated to music and song. The Downtown Christmas Fantasy Light Show is offered Sunday - Thursday from 5.30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 5.30 p.m. until midnight. The show will run all night on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
"We encourage Kings Mountain residents and visitors to make visiting Downtown Kings Mountain a part of your Christmas 'Must-Do list' this year, and see the Christmas Fantasy Light Show which will be lighting up the downtown buildings along Railroad Avenue," says Jan Harris, director of the Kings Mountain Main Street program. "Just tune your car radio to 'Let It Snow Radio (101.5)' and watch the more than 400,000 lights twinkle and flash in time to the holiday music!"
The star of the show is the Colored Cosmic Ribbon Tree - a giant pixel-screen display located at the old Dixie Theatre in mid-block on Railroad Avenue. Another large tree featuring hundreds of lights is located next to the Joy Theater. There are also thousands of lights outlining the rooftops and windows on the block from Gold Street to the Joy Theatre at Mountain Street and displays on the roof of the Plonk Building and along the fence near the Joy. These will all be animated with lights that dance to songs such as "Carol of the Bells," a yuletide mash-up of "Dueling Banjos," Mozart pieces and Trans-Siberian Orchestra selections.
Of the new features in this year's Light Show, one of the most exciting will be the addition of outdoor speakers to broadcast the music along Railroad and Battleground Avenues. "In the past, visitors had to remain inside their cars in order to gain the full effect of the fabulous music and lights extravaganza," says Harris. "Now, visitors to downtown will be free to leave their cars to stroll the sidewalks, window shop and visit with friends."
"Many hands have been busy putting together this year's Downtown Christmas Fantasy Light Show," she says. "City staff from the Energy Services, Public Works, IT, Administration, Main Street and Special Events have worked together alongside dedicated volunteers, including Mayor Scott Neisler, Jeff Ward and many others."
