After an early childhood in Mt. Holly, NC, Francanna moved with her family to Shelby at age eight. She attended Shelby Public Schools, graduating from Shelby High School. She attended UNC-Greensboro, where she studied home economics.

Francanna was an avid golfer and dedicated homemaker. Among her special interests were sewing, knitting, gardening, and bridge. She was a member of the Cleveland Country Club, Junior Charity League, Literary Book Club, Junior Woman's Club, and Ladies Golf Association in Shelby.

After retirement Francanna and C. L. moved to their summer home on Lake Wylie, SC, spending their winters in Stuart, Florida. Their family treasures memories of family projects and relaxation shared at the house by the lake, all augmented by a half century of Francanna's good cooking.
