Blacksburg -- Frances Marie Schmidt Martin, 61, of 207 Milo Dr, passed away on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, at the Cherokee Medical Center.

Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the wife of Curtis Martin and the daughter of the late Charles Davis Nivens and Carol Ann Elemendorf Nivens. In her professional life, she was the owner/operator of Schmidt Trucking. In her personal life, she was a crafty person who loved making cards, 3D cards, and ornaments.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Ericha Schmidt (Travis Thompson) and Brittany Schmidt (Victor Barrs); her step-children: William Martin, Daniel Martin, Joseph Martin, Amber Smith, and Brandi Helveston; a brother, Charles Nivens; a sister, Anna Nivens; five grandchildren: Haleigh Barrs, Sydney Schmidt, Addison Cowart, Noah Cowart, and Ryleigh Barrs; fifteen step-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Erich Schmidt, a brother, Johnny Nivens, and a grandson, Nico Cowart.

No services are scheduled at this time.

The family will be at their respective homes.

The Blacksburg location of Gordon Mortuary is serving the Martin family.
