Frank Louis Oates

He was born on November 3, 1941 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Clifton Oates and the late Elsie Raper Oates. He was born and raised in Washington Community where he was a member of Washington Missionary Baptist Church,

Frank was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School, where he was known as a star baseball pitcher and center basketball player. After high school he worked as a truck driver for Shelby Concrete. He was then employed by Doran Textiles as forklift driver for 35 years until he retired.

Frank was a Bible preaching man who loved the Lord. He could talk about the goodness of the Lord all day long... He never met a stranger and loved everyone whom he met. Frank enjoyed bowling (the best at picking up spares you ever met), hunting, gardening, watching sports and car racing. He would always say I am a Lakers and Redskins man!!! If he was not talking Bible he was talking sports and you could not out talk him on either topic!! (He was always right).

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ellis and Mary Roberts Oates and Alfred and Pinkie Raper; one son, William Guest. his siblings Blanch Oates, Lee Oates, Max Oates, Walter Oates Sr. and a sister-in-law Sallie Oates.

Left to cherish many fond and lasting memories of him are his children, Darryl Robbs of Charlotte, NC, Frank Robbs (Flecia) of Kings Mountain, NC, Ciera Hathorn (Kerry) of

Charlotte, NC, Stephen Oates of Shelby NC, Charles Foster (Shanea) of Charlotte, NC and Clarissa Foster of Gastonia, NC; two special "daughters" India Cross and Shanda Taylor; his grandchildren; Shila and Tearria Robbs, DaShaud (Misha) Kee, Sharetta Key, Darrius Feaster, Aaliyah Degree, Latoya Guest, Kyree and Kingston Allen, Brittany, Charles Jr, and Cayden Foster, and Quentra Lee; eight great children; his siblings, Clifton Oates Jr of Mount Vernon, NY, Nathaniel Oates (Barbara), Brenda (Paul) Feaster, and Shirley ( Jerry) Oates all of Shelby, NC and Wanda of Flushing, NY; a sister in law Ossie Oates of Shelby, ,NC. Three special friends Eugene Borders, Gary Brooks, Earnest Hopper and Anthony Simms and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Mr. Oates will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 2:30 PM at Washington Missionary Baptist Church. The service will be livestreamed on FaceBook starting at 2:15 PM. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 2:30 PM at the church and other times at 326 Bridges Circle Kings Mountain, NC. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
