Mr. Fred Jonas Houser, 83, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at his residence.

Fred was born on December 12, 1942, in Lincoln County, NC a son of the late Harry Franklin Houser and Essie Mosteller Houser. He was a motor grader operator and retired from North Carolina Department of Transportation. Fred was a member of Hull's Grove Baptist Church in Vale where he served in many capacities including a deacon, trustee and served on the cemetery committee for over 40 years. He enjoyed working in his yard and was an avid gardener.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hazeline Heafner and three brothers, Parmer, Frank, Bob and Dean Houser.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joyce Tallent Houser of the home; a daughter, Hannah Houser Norwood and husband Stephen of Vale; four grandchildren, Eliza Marie Hullette, Noah Houser Hullette, Beth Meads and Zack Norwood. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Mr. Houser's caregivers Melinda Bines, Rhonda Joyner, Carley Butler, Chassity Mayes, Valerie Moyaka and Tonya Minton.

The family will receive friends from 2:45PM to 3:45PM on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Hull's Grove Baptist Church in Vale.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00PM on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Hull's Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Travis Elmore and Bobby Farmer

Burial will be in Hull's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
