Gateway Trail Photo Competion held

On Saturday evening May 23, 2015, awards were presented at a public reception for the first annual Gateway "TRAIL" photo competition at Southern Arts Society in Kings Mountain, NC. This new competition and exhibit was created to promote the Gateway Trail and encourage observation and interactive participation by Trail visitors. Davis Goodman of Gastonia, NC was awarded First Place for his photo "Late Afternoon".
Judging the photography was Tracy Stilwell, a photographer with Victorian Rose Studio Photography in Shelby, NC. Ms. Stilwell selected first, second and third place. Prizes of $75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place were awarded along with ribbons.
Second Place went to Tammy Farley of Kings Mountain for her photo "Wrapped in a Reflection". Third Place was given to Ellen Devenny of Kings Mountain, NC for her photo "Me and My Shadow".
The Gateway "Trail" photography competition will return next year. Visitors are encouraged to take photographs along the trail and watch for details of the contest in 2016.
The "TRAIL" photography exhibit will be in the Fireside Gallery of Southern Arts Society through June 19, 2015. Also, the "I AM WOMAN" art exhibit is on view in the main galleries through June 19, 2015. Visitors to Southern Arts Society may cast a vote for their favorite piece in each show. A People's Choice award will be given at the end of the show.
