Gaynell Tate Phillips

Gaynell Tate Phillips, age 90, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Carolina's Healthcare System-Cleveland. Born in Rutherford County on April 8, 1927 she was the daughter of the late John S. Tate and Bessie Hames Tate. Gaynell was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and loved her church, family and sitting on her front porch talking to the neighbors. She also loved Braves Baseball and Bingo at White Oak.

In addition to her parents; Gaynell is preceded in death by her husband Joe Phillips, Sr.,

one son, Danny Clyde Phillips; four brothers; JP Tate, Bobby Tate, Dewitt Tate, Johnny Tate, one sister; Dorothy Tate Hoyle and a son-in-law; Dewey Helms.

Gaynell is survived by her children; a son Joe Phillips, Jr. and his wife Beverly; a daughter, Elizabeth Phillips Helms; two grandchildren, Scott Helms and Diane Phillips and one great grandson, Michael Harris.

The family of Gaynell would like to thank Jeremy McSwain and Pastor Dale Byrd for all the visits; White Oak Oak Manor Rehab and staff for all the kindness they showed her; and to all the nurses at Carolina's Healthcare for their kindness and the care she received.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11:00am at Floyd's Creek Baptist Church, 2004 Chase High Road, Forest City, NC 28043. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory from 2-4pm.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Eastside Baptist Church, 1165 Wyke Road, Shelby, NC 28150 or a charity of one's choice.
