George Glenn Smith

George Glenn Smith, 79, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on April 05, 2022 at his home.

He was born in Alamance County, NC, son of the late George Smith Jr. and Florence Heavner Smith and was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Ronnie Smith, and two grandchildren, Scott Smith and Kaysen Hammer. Shortly after graduating from high school, where he played the trumpet and received the John Philip Sousa Award, which got George recognized by the office manager at FMC, he began his career with FMC Lithium Corporation of America which spanned more than 50 years. George worked in several areas of the plant, including administrative positions, time in the Aerospace Metals Division, and eventually given responsibility over the vehicle fleet at the plant. In his spare time, George continued to be active, owning his own motorcycle repair shop, and being involved with motorcycle drag racing. He also served on the board of the credit union for more than 30 years. George enjoyed spending time outdoors, playing golf and fishing. He was a selfless person who loved spending time with his family.

Grandchildren: Jennifer Pearsall, Justin and Eric Smith, Brook and David McAteer, Jack Smith, Piper Cato, Cayden Bunch, Kolton Hammer, Elizabeth and Emery Smith, Paislee and Aiden Adams

Siblings: Randy Smith and Brenda Crenshaw (Barry)

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Boyce Memorial ARP Church with Reverend Dr. Rob Patrick officiating

VISITATION: Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM prior to the service at the church

INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC
