Gerald "Buck" Barker, age 88, of Tanner Road, Rutherfordton, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born April 8, 1928 in Gaston County, NC, he was a son to the late John Barker and Nancy Farmer Barker. He worked for Stonecutter Mill-Mill Spring Plant for over twenty-five years before retirement. Buck was a member of Green River Baptist Church and enjoyed taking trips to the Tennessee Mountains with his late wife.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Avree Bernice Henderson Barker; daughter, Vicky Barker; two sons, Ronnie Barker and Phillip Barker; sister, Pat Barker and two brothers, Bill Barker and Jimmy Barker.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Barker and wife, Maxine of Rutherfordton and Ricky Barker and wife, Nancy of Polk County; sister, Sandy Huggins of North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Deborah Barker of Mooresboro; four grandchildren, Tony Barker, Tony Revels, Torie Hicks and Kim Reep; four great-grandchildren, Kelsie Barker, Madison Reep, Hanna Reep and Riley "Thumper" Hicks; three great-great-grandchildren, Alanah Mathes, Logehn Mathes and Kourbin Witzel.
The memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend David Anderson and Mr. Tony Barker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.
