Gerald Bush Queen

Gerald Bush Queen age 83, died Sunday November 29, 2015 at White Oak Manor in Shelby. Born in Cleveland County on December 18, 1931 he was the son of the late Paul "Tilden" and Vernie Pruett Queen. Gerald was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he was a member of the Delbert Lee Memorial Sunday School Class.Gerald began a small concrete pipe business during the early 1950's. In the following years he owned and operated Sumter Coin Laundry in Shelby from 1975-1998. He enjoyed the friendships that developed during this time that continue today. He also began a rental property business in the early 1970's that he continued to be involved in until his illness prevented him from doing so. He loved working with his son Joey with whom he worked with over 40 years.

Gerald's daughter Patty has been his caregiver and companion since his wife's death eight year ago. She also has been by his side since his illness began in August of 2014.

Gerald enjoyed going to the beach, eating out with family and friends. He was a generous person to many. He was always willing to help someone in need. He loved the Lord and loved his church.

In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Martha Wilson Queen, who died on November 29, 2007, eight years ago; a brother, Charles Queen; and two sisters, Thelma Barnette and Joan Crocker.

Gerald is survived by a son, Joey Queen and wife Lisa of Shelby; a daughter, Patty Fortenberry and husband Carl of Casar; three grandchildren, Aaron Queen, Anna Queen, and Suzy Fortenberry; many loving nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, "Jessie".

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Timothy Sims officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the sanctuary.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Kyle Aldinger and the staff at Shelby Medical Associates and also, the staff and doctors at White Oak Manor for the loving care that Gerald received from them during his stay.
