Gerald Gettys, age 79, of Rutherfordton, passed away Monday, August 24, 2020 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Gerald was born March 5, 1941 in Rutherford County to the late Embry Gettys and Rosie Stockton Gettys. He was a graduate of Ellenboro High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Gerald worked as the parts manager for Sparkie's Chrysler-Dodge and Jeep for over thirty years. He was a faithful member of the 2nd Baptist Church of Rutherfordton and enjoyed going on mission trips to help others. Gerald was a Jeep enthusiast and belonged to the local Jeep Club for several years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Spurlin and Marjorie Gettys and an infant grandchild.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of nineteen years, Debbie Gettys; three daughters, Gretchen O'Donnell (Shane) of Forest City, Jessi Fulbright (Brent) of Casar, Emily Bailey (Bobby Bagwell) of Ellenboro and a son, Robbie Rothrock of Rutherfordton; brother, Frank Gettys (Marjorie) of Ellenboro and six grandchildren, Reagan O'Donnell, Landon Fulbright, Micah Fulbright, Sawyer Fulbright, Emma Fulbright and Bentley Bailey.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton with Reverend Keith Stephenson and Reverend Brandon Wood officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Social distancing and masks will be required of all attendees.
