Geraldine Smith McClune

Geraldine Smith McClune was born May 10, 1947, in Pikeville, NC to the late Mr. Bennie Allen Smith and Mrs. Esther Ham Smith.

On Saturday, December 14, 2024, an angel received her wings and suddenly transitioned to her heavenly home.
Geraldine was the second of eleven children. She loved putting puzzles together as large as 1,000 to 2,000 pieces. She was a meticulous seamstress and was known as a very good cook; especially her fried cabbage and stuffed cabbage. Her husband, family members, and friends tried to duplicate her recipe, but they couldn't match it. Geraldine loved glassware and figurines and had an outstanding collection.
To her family, she was known to be very outspoken but loving. She loved kids and always brought her husband's niece and nephew, Tiffany and Daryl, with them on vacations to North Carolina. Geraldine loved flowers and inherited her mother's green thumb. She had a generous heart and loved her most precious dogs--Boss, Wolfy and Snowball. Laughter could always be heard when they were around.
Geraldine graduated from Norwayne High School in 1965, in Fremont, NC. Her first job was cleaning houses. While living in New York she worked as a Seamstress doing alterations at a local dry cleaner. She was a Health Care Assistant at First Chinese Presbyterian Hospital for 18 years, from where she retired.
While living in Pikeville, NC, she met the love of her life and husband, Robert McClune, from Shelby, NC. In May of 1969, Geraldine moved to New York to be with Robert. They were united in holy matrimony on July 17, 1972. Geraldine and Robert returned to Shelby, NC, made their permanent home, and they became members of Ryburn Memorial Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by brothers Bennie Levon Smith and Minister Keith Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory her dedicated husband, Robert McClune of 52 years; seven sisters and one brother; Iona P. Carter (Noble), Delores Smith, Brenda Newman (Joel), Evelyn Reid (Donnie), Lorea Ford (Anthony), Vivian Hodges (Rudy), Earlene Lamb and Stevie Ford; sister-in-law; Minister Rudy Smith; three aunts and one uncle; Minister Ruby Fitzgerald, Franklin Coley (Josephine), Peggy Coley and Ethel Mae Ham; Roberts family; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Ryburn Memorial Presbyterian Church in Shelby, NC .
