Gerene lived a very full and active life. She began her sales career with House of Decorative Accessories (HODA). She then opened her own business, The Unicorn of Mooresville, Inc. She had the honor of doing weddings for 20 years. It was during that time, Gerene was first diagnosed with Scleroderma. She turned to a Vegan Lifestyle and Alternative Medicine, and through this was able to live symptom free for 13 years. Gerene moved from her life-long home in Concord to Shelby in 2004 to help open The Resource Center for Hallelujah Acres. She had a passion for teaching and sharing what she had learned with others in hopes of helping others change and extend their lives. In 2007, Gerene opened the Original Healing Connection Wellness Center in Shelby on Washington Street. She was an entrepreneur in every sense of her being, and easily created a thriving business due to her abundant knowledge and passion to help others. She continued to help others and share her knowledge in any way that she could up until her death. Gerene was a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School and served as Elder. She and Roy joined First Wesleyan Church in Kings Mountain soon after moving to Shelby in 2004. She taught the Dorcas Sunday School Class until she was unable to continue due to her declining health. Gerene loved people. She loved helping and encouraging others to set goals and reach for their dreams. When not working, she was happiest working in her flowers or spending time with her grandchildren. Her positivity and determination will forever be remembered and will remain with us as her legacy.
