Girl Scouts To Celebrate Official 100th Birthday On March 12
Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont (GSCP2P) will join other Girl Scouts across the nation in celebrating Girl Scout Week and the 100th Anniversary during the week of March 11-17, 2012.
The organization was established in 1912 by founder Juliette Gordon Low. Her vision was to grow a girl-centered organization, where girls could experience the outdoors, expand their worlds through community service and learn the skills needed to be successful women in the society they lived in. Now 100 years later, Girl Scouts has grown to 3.2 million members and is known as the premier girl leadership organization in the nation, where girls learn skills and values that they take with them into a successful future.
“Girl Scout Week is an opportunity to celebrate the long and proud history of Girl Scouting and to engage our girls in making our communities and world a better place,” said Marcia Cole, chief executive officer of GSCP2P. “It is also an opportunity to thank the countless number of volunteers in our community who give so much to Girl Scouting all year long. With their support, we are able to continue to offer girls the encouragement, guidance and resources they need to develop their leadership skills.”
During Girl Scout Week, Girl Scouts of all ages celebrate by demonstrating leadership and commitment in ways that have a real impact on their communities. Girl Scout Sunday kicks off the week on March 11. Girl Scouts everywhere are encouraged to wear their Girl Scout 100th Anniversary pin in celebration of the official birthday on March 12.
As the Girl Scout organization continues to move forward, it continues to keep in step with girls’ needs while remaining true to the core values of the Girl Scouts Movement. Serving as a Girl Scout today means being part of a worldwide organization that builds leadership skills by providing girls with opportunities to discover their interests, connect with others and take action to change the world for the better.
