Gladys Mae (Tedder) Snyder

Gladys Mae (Tedder) Snyder of Shelby, NC was called home to her Lord on Saturday, August 13, 2022. She lived a long happy life and died peacefully in her sleep at the Wendover Hospice House in Shelby N.C.

Born on April 16, 1929 in Lenoir, NC to Cora Lee (Piercy) Tedder and Cicero Tedder. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1948. Soon after her graduation, she married the love of her life, Sam Snyder. When Sam was ordained as a Baptist minister, she was steadfast by his side. She unselfishly supported his ministry and the churches he pastored. She always had a warm, reassuring hug and a kind word. Gladys had the sweetest, most loving spirit and a spine of steel. She overcame adversity with love, compassion and grace. She was happiest surrounded by her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren.

She opened and operated Joyland Day Care for 16 years. Joyland became one of the most respected childcare facilities in Cleveland County, and kept a waiting list of parents seeking to enroll their children. Under her guidance, the children thrived in a safe, loving, Christian environment. She shared her faith with the children and taught them Bible stories along with their ABCs and 123s. Children leaving Joyland for kindergarten were well prepared to start their educational journey.

After joining her husband, Sam, in retirement, they moved to Casar, N.C. to their house on the hill. She enjoyed sitting on her porches with their expansive views of the South and Cherry Mountains. They joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church and became beloved and active members of the community. In their later years, Gladys and Sam downsized and moved back to Shelby. There, they joined Ross Grove Baptist church, where they were warmly welcomed into the church family.

Gladys was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, and friend. Left here on Earth to cherish her memory are her sister, Ruby Annas, and brother Ray Tedder, both of Lenoir, Son Jerry Snyder and wife Mildred of Shelby, Son Terry Snyder of Casar , and Daughter Joy Devine and husband David of Belmont. Granddaughter Sherry Snyder Baxter and husband Vincent. Grandson Jeremy Snyder and wife Stephanie. Grandson Sam David Devine and granddaughter Olivia Devine. Great granddaughters Ann Marie Baxter, Madelyn Baxter, Kennedy Snyder, and great grandson Porter Snyder, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Those rejoicing with her in heaven are her parents, Cora and Cicero, her beloved husband Sam, her brothers Ralph and Roy Tedder, her niece Anita Tedder and her nephew Steve Tedder and many dear friends.
