Gottfried Gstundtner
 Gottfried Gstundtner, 66, of Cherryville, NC died September 27, 2012 at home surrounded by family.  He was born April 20, 1946 in Ollersdorf, Austria, the son of the late Hedwig Maier Friedle of Aflenz-Kurort, Austria

Mr. Gstundtner was raised and educated in Saint Stephan and Hartberg, Austria.  He served in the Austrian Air Force and attended Textile College in Munchberg, Germany.  He was employed in the textile industry in Austria and Germany as an engineer.  In 1979 Mr. Gstundtner moved to Shelby, NC to design novelty yarn for American Rehers Zwirne and was their general manager.  While attending St. Mary Catholic Church in Shelby he met Karen McCarthy.  They married on June 20, 1981.  Mr. Gstundtner started his own novelty design and manufacturing business, C & S Yarns, in Cherryville, NC in 1985 and retired in 2010. 

He was an avid photographer of nature and wildlife.  He enjoyed home-dyeing novelty yarn and knitting.  He loved cooking Austrian food, sailing, classical music, rescuing animals and was a devoted husband and father.

He leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Karen Gstundtner, his children Christopher and Stephen Gstundtner of Cherryville and a brother Adolf Gstundtner of Pöllau, Austria.

A celebration of life service will be at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 6 p.m. followed by receiving of family and friends. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 or Cleveland County Humane Society Shelter, 1609 E Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150.
