Mr. Gregory Maurice Byers, 55, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in Quezon City, Phillipines. He was born on May 15, 1963 in Cleveland County NC to the late J.C. Byers and Susie Mae Daniels Byers.

Gregory was a graduate of Crest High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years and was an Operations Facilities Manager. While in the Navy, he received several medals and commendations including the Good Conduct Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle Ribbon, Expert Pistol Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon. He was retired from the Department of Defense of the U.S. Navy in Honolulu, HI after fifteen years of service.

Gregory loved to golf and swim. He was an ordained minister and was a follower of Christ. He also loved his children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Byers Dover; brother, Joseph Holmes and a nephew, Roderick Byers.

He is survived by his children, Maurice Byers (Brittany) and Raquel Byers both of Shelby, NC, Joshua Byers of Fl, Noah Dewberry of MD and Daraius Bote of the Phillipines; two grandchildren, Roman Byers and Christian Byers; a sister, Janet Byers of Shelby; brothers, Ricky Byers and Charles Byers (Mildred) both of Shelby; a niece, Shannon Byers Mintz of Shelby and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church. The family will be meeting at the home of his daughter, Raquel Byers 907 Kearney Drive Shelby.
