Grover "G.H." Walton

Grover "G.H." Walton was born October 7, 1944, in Staunton, VA, to the late Capt. Grover H. Walton and Katherine Gardner Walton.

G.H. passed away peacefully on the morning of March 12, 2026, in Murrells Inlet, SC, after a long illness, with his wife of 60 years by his side.

G.H. graduated from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA, and attended Gardner-Webb University. He received the Chartered Financial Consultant designation from The American College, worked in Shelby, NC, at Metropolitan Life for 17 years, but his entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate his own businesses and partnerships for the majority of his career.

G.H. had a strong work ethic, which he instilled in all three of his sons. That work ethic afforded him the ability to retire early, which allowed him to spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His retirement also allowed him to travel both near and far with a beloved group of friends who affectionately called him "The General."

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Scott Walton.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Jordan Walton, and his sons, Christopher (Cindy) of Murrells Inlet, SC; John "Rusty" of Boiling Springs; and Jason (Ginny) of Clemmons, NC; and his grandchildren, Madison Walton Sadler (Barney), Callie Walton Burgess (Austin), Rebekah Walton, Reese Walton, and Carter Walton. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Baker Burgess and Nathan Grover Sadler.

The family will receive friends at Boiling Springs Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday March 21, 2026, prior to a graveside service at Cleveland Memorial Park near Boiling Springs, NC, at 1 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Boiling Springs Baptist Church, PO Box 917, Boiling Springs, NC 28017.
