HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE PLAYGROUND ADDITION IN KINGS MOUNTAIN...
Children who have physical and mental disabilities will soon have the opportunity to  enjoy playing at the park with the new addition to the Rick Murphrey Children’s Park located at the Kings Mountain YMCA. The playground is the idea of Ginger Poteat who has a love for children and wants all to have the opportunity to play at the park. Her grandson and nephew who both have special needs spurred her desire for a playground in our area that all children could enjoy. After approaching Cleveland County Commissioner, Jason Falls about her idea, he was willing to work with the county to pursue this dream playground.  The groundbreaking occurred on Friday, September 19, 2014 and was led by Mayor Rick Murphrey, Commissioner Jason Falls, and Ginger Poteat. Many Cleveland County Commissioners, Cleveland County School Board members, North Shelby School students and staff, local law enforcement, and supporters were in attendance for this event.  The expected completion date is November 2014. The playground is partnered with Cleveland County who approved $80,998 to cover the cost of building the playground and the City of Kings Mountain who prepared the site for building and will maintain the structure. The new playground will be the only handicapped accessible playground in Cleveland County that is open to the public.
