'Handmade for the Holidays' offers unique gifts

Want to find a one-of-a-kind gift while shopping locally and supporting Cleveland County arts? "Handmade for the Holidays" offers you the chance to do just that. Featuring approximately 40 local and regional artists, the shop is housed in the Cleveland County Arts Council (CCAC) gallery, located at 111 S. Washington St. in Shelby.
"We have a really good variety of items for shoppers to choose from," says CCAC president Shearra Miller. "We have quality, handmade items that have been juried and selected especially for this sale." Items available for purchase range from books, to pottery, to jewelry, to hand-made cards and jams and jellies. Proceeds from the sale are split, with 30 percent going to the CCAC and 70 percent going to the artist.
The CCAC has been sponsoring the sale of locally made artwork for more than 15 years. "It's a wonderful opportunity for shoppers to find unique gifts while helping both the Arts Council and area artists," Miller says. "I think in the last few years we have all become more aware of the benefits of shopping locally, and this is a great opportunity to do that."
Plus, thanks to the CCAC's location in the uptown Shelby area, shoppers can visit other local businesses at the same time, since there are many stores available within walking distance of the CCAC gallery.
"Handmade for the Holidays" is open through December 23, 2015. Hours are Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Call the CCAC at 704-484-2787 or email info@ccartscouncil.org for more information.
