Harold "Spencer" Allen
Harold "Spencer" Allen, age 78, of Sandy Mush, passed away August 23, 2017. He was the son of the late A.L. and Beatrice Seay Allen.
In his youth he joined the Boy Scouts and received the Eagle Scout Award. Spencer was very smart and highly motivated. In high school he was a top student and won almost every superlative "Best Dressed" and "Most Likely to Succeed" to name a few. When he graduated from Tri-High School he attended North Carolina State University and later graduated from Carson Newman and then on to Southeastern Theological Seminary. He returned home after college, married his wife, Jackie, and they had a daughter, Tanya Allen. Building was booming and he began his career in the building business and real estate. As he grew older, he opened Alexander Pawn Shop, which he operated until his illness. Spencer and his brother, J.P. Allen contributed to the building of Allen Stadium at Chase High School, which bears the "Allen" name.
Spencer is survived by his wife, Jackie Shytle Allen of Forest City, a daughter, Tanya Allen of Forest City and three grandchildren: Kalyn Kinseay Allen, Palyn Kathryn Allen and Easton Spencer Allen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mollie Seay and a brother, J.P.Allen.
A memorial service to honor Spencer's life will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Caroleen United Methodist Church with Reverend Lucy Robbins officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Caroleen United Methodist Church Youth Fund.
