Harvetta Howell Fuller

Mrs. Harvetta Howell Fuller, 73, of 821 Waters St. Shelby, NC passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at her residence. She was born on February 17, 1947 in Lincoln County, NC to the late Ella Moore and the late Van Roberts.

Harvetta was not an ordinary woman and in honor of the phenomenal person she was, we have decided to tell her story in a different way. In Ecclesiastes, the Bible reminds us that to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Harvetta's life is testament to this scripture, there were times of great pain; but there were also times of great passion, joy, and love. This is the story of a phenomenal women ...

A time to be born, and a time to die

Harvetta Oretta Moore was born February 17, 1947 to the late Ella Moore and late Van Roberts. She departed this life on, September 29, 2020, at the age of 73, after a courageous battle with heart, liver, and kidney failure.

A time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted

Harvetta used her gifts and talents to serve others. After graduating from Newbold High School, in 1966, she attended Johnson C. Smith University. After leaving Johnson C. Smith she worked in the banking industry before finding her lifelong career in public education. For 32 years, she worked at Washington Elementary School where she served in various positions; but she most enjoyed serving the students in the Reading Lab and being a First Grade Teacher Assistant. She was creative and carried a strong sense of pride in what she did to benefit the children of Washington Elementary School (even when she had to discipline some of the Howell children because we were not representing the Howell brand well).

Harvetta also used her talents to plant seeds of joy. Many have benefitted from the great advice and listening ear she so willingly provided. She often baked cakes, sewed, and completed other crafts that served as special mementos to those on the receiving end of her talents. She also believed in being of service to her church. Since accepting Jesus, at the age of 10, at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Lincolnton, NC, she actively displayed God's word through her service to the ministry. At Washington Missionary Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday School Teacher. Her most recent church service was serving as Church Secretary for Faith Missionary Baptist Church.

A time to weep, and a time to laugh

Harvetta's greatest joy was her grandchildren! She was proud of their accomplishments. Tia Howell, Micayla Jordan, Bryson Howell, Dillon Jordan, and Kendrick Howell as well as her bonus grandchildren, Stayci Robinson, Josh Fuller, Gabby Fuller, Sadie Fuller and Sydney Fuller, brought her much laughter and each of them brought out a different aspect of her personality. We know heaven must be an awesome wonder because only an unimaginable beauty and peace could take her away from seeing her grandchildren grow into their destinies. The joy she had for her grandchildren would not have been possible without her first loves, her children, Dede (Anthony) Jordan and Derrick (Kenya) Howell.

A time to mourn and a time to dance

If there is one word that can be used to describe Harvetta, it is resilient. At a young age she suffered many health ailments, which impacted her into adulthood. As an adult, shsurgery, Colon Cancer, breaking a shoulder, and the heartbreak that came with losing her first husband, Timothy C. Howell, in 1991, after 20 years of marriage. In addition to Tim and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Moore; sister, Joyce Harris; stepdaughter, Dana Fuller; and her in-laws Buford Howell, Theresa Fuller, Betty Young, Hazel Belcher, Waymon Fuller, and Von Fuller. Despite the challenges that life gave her, she always maintained her beautiful smile, positive attitude, and faith in God. Her faith and resiliency allowed her to find love again with Louis Fuller, whom she married in 1996. During their 23 years of marriage, Harvetta and Louis enjoyed traveling and serving in the church together.

A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing

Our family knows that this void will never be filled; however, we remain comforted by the many memories of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Harvetta is survived by her sister, Margaret Gibbs; her brothers, David (Grace) Mooreand Marshall (Delisa) Moore; her "brother cousins", Johnny Moore, Melvin Moore, and Clifton Love; her stepsons, AJ Fuller and Eric Mills; her brother-in-laws, Raphael (Patsy) Howell, George (Cathy) Howell, and Bryan (Kay) Howell; and her sister-in-law, Cathy D. Howell. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family from the Moores, Howells, and Fullers. We want to acknowledge the love and care her niece, Marquita Bess, showed Harvetta, during her time of illness.

Dede and Derrick would like to say, "Thank You and Love You Mom!" for being there for us for close to 30 years as our only parent. Thank you for every milestone you stayed around to witness - you will forever be our biggest cheerleader and greatest fan! We know that we now have two special guardian angels and you will now enjoy a bird's eye view of our journey that remains. As a family we will embrace and support each other as we adjust to not hearing your voice and seeing your smile. Rest easy Mama!
