Hazel E. Smith, age 86, formerly of Ellenboro, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Fair Haven Home of Bostic.
Hazel was born August 19, 1932 in Rutherford County, to the late George Columbus Black and Lillie Mae Brooks Black. She worked in textiles and at Fair Haven Home for several years, but her passion was being a homemaker. She was known for being an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening. Hazel also enjoyed making necklaces and bracelets and giving them away to people she loved. She attended the Christian Worship Center in Mooresboro when her health permitted and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Smith; son, Jerry Wayne Smith and a brother, James William Black.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Sara Bradley and husband, Bruce and Rita Waters and husband, Ronald all of Ellenboro; an uncle, Forest Melton of Bostic and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Randy Church officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
