Mrs. Helen Dyke Parris, age 95 died Tuesday March 12, 2013 at Peak Resources in Shelby. Born in Cherokee County SC on April 30, 1917 she was the daughter of the late Julia Dyke Case. Mrs. Parris was one of the oldest members of Dover Baptist Church. She retired from Ora Mill after working there for over 50 years. She was a member of the Dover Women’s Club and enjoyed traveling with them. She had a great sense of humor and loved taking care of animals and others. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, A.C. Parris; a daughter, Judy McMurray; and a brother, Grady Dyke.

Mrs. Parris is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Walker Bartrug and husband Norman of Shelby, and Margaret Ledford and husband Jack of Shelby; a son-in-law, Kenneth McMurry of Lawndale; a sister, Etta Anderson of Sarasota, Fl; eight grandchildren, Kathy Ledford Dwiggins of Shelby, Danny Ledford and wife Lisa of Shelby, Cindy Walker of Falls Church, Va., Tim Walker and wife Leslie of Fort Mill SC, Pam Callahan and husband Robert of Boiling Springs, Julia Hughes and husband Barry of Lattimore, Karen White and husband Larry of Lawndale, and Jason McMurry and wife Alice of PA.; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be on Friday March 15, 2013 at 3:00pm at Dover Baptist Church. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at the church. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
