Helen Elizabeth Hyde Gold

Helen Elizabeth Hyde Gold, 96, of 2957 West Stagecoach Trail, Shelby, died on Monday, September 18, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loved ones as she went to Heaven to meet her Lord and join her beloved family already there.

She was born January 14, 1921, in Bryson City, NC, to the late James Marion Hyde and Cora West Hyde. Helen grew up in Andrews, NC, where she lived until she went to Gastonia to work where she met the love of her life, Lemuel Hoyle Gold. They were married September 16, 1945. They made their home in Polkville and were married 67 years until his death in September, 2013.

She is also preceded in death by her siblings; six brothers, Lewis, Lee, Roy, Lawrence, David, Dale, and two sisters, Nell Keenum and Eileen Hyde.

To cherish her memory are her children, Joe (Rodella) Gold, Brenda Whisnant, Nancy (Phil) Graham, Susan (Ron) Cole. Grandchildren: Trey (Haley) Whisnant, Amber Graham, Jason (Emily) Gold, Anna (Jason) Ledford, James Gold, Andy Cole, Robert Cole and a step granddaughter, Amanda (Jimmy) Swindell. Great Grandchildren, Cort and Scout Whisnant, Jude and Aliza Ledford, Noah and Katherine Gold, Jay, Jackson, and Ethan Swindell; sister-in-law, Judy Hyde, of Weaverville. She is also survived by numerous beloved Hyde and Gold nieces and nephews.

She was affectionately known as "Granny". Before her health declined, she was often regaled for her delicious home-cooked meals. Her green thumb showed in her flower beds and garden. Her family enjoyed the bounty of frozen and canned goods.

She took tender loving care of her children and grandchildren in the sanctuary of their home. They and everyone who knew her benefited greatly from her unconditional love, attention, kindness, devotion, humility, caring nature, and gentleness. She was a selfless hard-working lady who always put others first. She was a very generous and giving person. Her sweet beautiful smiles and hugs were cherished. She devoted her life to providing her family with a warm, happy and Godly home. No one could iron better than Granny!

She enjoyed visits from her family, friends, and neighbors. She loved to read her Bible and was an avid reader. She was a DUKE basketball fan.

She loved life and people, but most of all she loved her Lord. Her church family was very dear and precious. She was an active and faithful member of Big Springs Baptist Church until her health declined. All who knew her were truly blessed, and she will be greatly missed. She was one of a kind.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mike Ribadeneyra and his staff. Wendover Hospice of Shelby has provided our Mother and our family with excellent loving care. Special thanks to DeLynn Fitch, Jodi Stowe, Sheree Wilson, Stacy Baker, Jill Wilson, O'Donna Davis, Debbie Costner, Lisa Corneal, and other caretakers too numerous to name.

The family will receive friends at the Big Springs Family Life Center on Wednesday, September 20th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service.

The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm at the Big Springs Baptist Church in Hollis and will be officiated by Reverend Paul Scott and Reverend Joe Edwards. The burial will follow at the Elliott Family Cemetery.
