Helen Faye Phillips Mabry

Cherryville - Mrs. Helen Faye Phillips Mabry entered into eternal rest on May 14, 2018. She was born on January 25, 1933, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Floyd County, Virginia. She was a child of the late Deputy Sheriff William Lewis Phillips and Cordova Quesenberry Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dwight Elwood Mabry; her sisters Clarah Vae Phillips and Mamie Phillips Vest; brothers William Morris Phillips and wife, Freeda and a brother-in-law, George Heafner; an infant brother and a great nephew, David Edmond Wesley Schlosser.

Honoring her life and memory are her daughter Cathy Mabry Cloninger and son-in-law, Alan Cloninger of Dallas; her son, Douglas Scott Mabry and daughter-in-law, Tami Mabry of Cherryville.

Helen deeply loved her two granddaughters Shawna Barrett Tillery and husband Jim of Greensboro and Madison Paige Mabry of Concord. She watched them grow into beautiful, intelligent and caring women.

She always expressed great love and delight for her two great-grandchildren, Caroline Faye Tillery and Jackson Ajalon Tillery of Greensboro. Her only surviving sibling is Mary Ruth Phillips Heafner, of Greensboro; also, a niece, Rebecca Heafner Schlosser and her husband, Michael of Greensboro; and brother-in-law, Earl Stewart Vest of Floyd, VA.

Helen was blessed throughout her life with people who loved her. After graduating from Floyd High School she entered the Norcross Business School in Albemarle, NC. For 48 years, Helen and Elwood were the owners and operators of Western Auto which later became Mabry Supplies. Helen enjoyed going to auctions and sales, looking for and buying antiques. Later in life, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved going out to dinner with her friend, Carol Stradley.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville with the Rev. John Stanley officiating.

Burial will be at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville.
