Helen Williams Bullock, 104, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on September 4, 2022.

Helen was born on October 25, 1917 at home in Kings Mountain, Cleveland County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Welford Smith Bullock, parents Mr. Wray Alexander Williams and Mrs. Emma Mae Ware Williams, two sisters Mrs. Maud McGill and Mrs. Mitchell Hunt, one brother Mr. Otto (Toby) Williams and one very special niece, Ms. Jan Williams. Helen is survived by numberous nieces, nephews, cousins, etc.

After graduating from Central High School in Kings Mountain, Helen attended Women's College University in Greensboro, NC which is now the University of North Carolina - Greensboro, NC. Helen graduated from Women's College with double majors in Home Economics and Science. Upon graduating from college, Helen moved to Seaboard, NC to accept a teaching position there that had been offered to her. While in Seaboard she met her future husband of 58 years, Welford Bullock, a lifelong resident of Seaboard. When World War II began, Welford volunteered for the US Navy and was stationed in the Pacific. Helen joined the WACS - Womens Army Corp where she served in the Intelligence Unit until her tour of duty ended in 1945. She and Welford married in 1944 in Kings Mountain, NC. They ultimately returned to Seaboard where Helen resumed teaching Home Economics and Biology in the North Hampton County School System for 32 years until her retirement in 1973. Helen and Welford relocated to Kings Mountain to take care of Helen's sister, Maud McGill. Helen resided there for the remainder of her life. Helen expressed her gratitude to the staff of White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain where she resided the last seven years. Also, Helen specifically asked that Christy Speed be acknowledged and recognized for her faithful devotion to Helen for the past seventeen and a half years. Christy was first and foremost Helen's friend and companion and, in later years continued in those capacities but also became her caregiver. Christy unfailingly attended to Helen's needs and wants to her full capabilities. Helen always told her cousin, Deborah Margaret Stanton of Greensboro, NC during their numerous telephone calls and visits to White Oak Manor that she didn't know what she would do without Christy - that she had proved indispensable to her and loyal to a fault. Helen loved Christy and Christy felt the same. Ruth Yarboro of Kings Mountain should also be recognized for helping Helen in various ways. Ruth is a member of First Baptist Church Kings Mountain, of which Helen was also a faithful member since childhood and an active one as long as she was able. Ruth made dresses for Helen specifically to Helen's liking which Helen appreciated very much. She also made numerous homemade pillows for Helen which proved very useful in providing comfort for her. She also made beautifully embroidered decorative pillows, quilts, bedspreads, etc. which Helen treasured. In conclusion, Helen Williams Bullock was dearly loved, respected and admired by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered for her constant positive attitude and kindness.
