Hester "Leonia" Logan Beam

Hester "Leonia" Logan Beam, age 99 years, joined the Heavenly Choir on November 09, 2020 at Peak Resources in Shelby, NC.

She was born October 11, 1921, the fourth daughter of seven, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel and Anna Brown Logan in Shelby. She graduated from Cleveland High School and continued to learn in Pittsburgh, PA where she gained employment in the retial industry. There, she met and married Mr. Charles E. Womack. Later, they relocated to Washington, DC. When Mr. Womack was deployed to France during WW II, the family returned to Shelby, NC where "Leonia" later met and married Mr. Floyd Beam.

Mrs. Beam was employed for many years as office manager and bookkeeper at Fireside Coal & Wood Company and Turner Realty Company, simultaneously. She was also self-employed in the vintage profession of Tailor/Seamstress, creating and altering garments for many community customers, friends, and family until she retired due to health limitations.

This quietly dignified lady (a.k.a. "Duchess") whose words of wisdom, sense of humor and acts of kindness had definite influence on numerous lives is a symbol of finer womanhood and true Christian living. She was formerly a member of Waddell Chapel AME Zion Church where she served as a Deaconess. She later joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she was a loving and faithful member since 2006.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beam was preceded in death by a special grandmother, Mrs. Mary Jane London-Logan; a loving granddaughter, Carla Harper-Johnson; her husband, Mr. Floyd Beam; three sisters, Rosa L. Jeter, Valerie L. Stewart and Doris L. Maddox and two brothers, Gordon and Howard Logan.

She leaves to cherish Precius Memories of her to her daughter, Charlotte Womack-Dixon (husband, David) of Shelby, NC; two grandsons, Jeffrey D. Harper of Charlotte, NC and Jay W. Johnson of Shelby, NC; five great-grandchildren, SherLeon M. Foster (wife, Maria), Jeffrey Harper, Cherriea Moore, Heather M. Wilson-Johnson and Kaira S. Johnson; several great-great grandchildren which include, Mia M. Moore and Michaela T. Foster; three dear sisters, Johnnie L. Hastings of Lincolnton, NC, Christine L. Smith of Pittsburgh, PA and Elsie L. Logan of Shelby, NC; two special cousins, Mildred B. Lee of Arlington, VA and Linda London of Shelby, NC; a loving Goddaughter, Loette Cupid of Tampa, FL; special friends, Virginia Miller-Williamson of Greensboro, NC and Gladys V. "You are not forgotten, Dear Momma Leonia, nor will you ever be; for as long as memory lasts we will remember thee."
