High School Oratorical contest winners

Shelby American Legion Post 82 announces the winners of its annual high school oratorical contest. Ryuki Deyton of Ellenboro was first place winner, and Jacob Camp of Lattimore was first runner up. Both are juniors in high school. Ruyki attends Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy in Henrietta and Jacob is a student at Crest High School. Ryuki will advance to the District Competition in Kings Mountain Saturday, January 17th.
Officials for the event were attorneys Les Farfour and Jason Thomas, and District Court Judge Ali Paksoy. The contestants had to give a prepared speech on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, and then were assigned a one of the Amendments and given five minutes to prepare and deliver a speech on it. Contest Chairman Ludy Wilkie presented each of the boys with a cash prize, a medal, and a certificate. The competition was held Saturday, January 10th, in the fellowship hall of Ascension Lutheran Church.
