Historic Morganton Festival Is September 9th & 10th
Join Morganton in celebrating 30 years of the Historic Morganton Festival! The free festival features two national country acts, four stages, Art Walk, Food and Wine Event, fun, games and food for all ages, plus over a mile and a half of arts & craft vendors from all over the country!
This is your invitation to “come and play in the streets” of downtown Morganton during the 30th Annual Historic Morganton Festival on September 9 & 10!  Famous for its mile and a half of arts and crafts, the Historic Morganton Festival always features free outdoor concerts, including a national Country Music act on Saturday night.  In honor of our 30th new events have been added: A Food and Wine Event; An Art Walk featuring a new sculpture and park area in honor of the 30th and old Western movies shown on the big screen at Marquee Cinemas; free shuttle bus service; two national musicians; two nationally known kids performers; and live music at various indoor venues throughout downtown, plus a few surprises! The weekend begins on Friday, September 9 at noon when the infamous Food Court will tempt your taste buds with succulent aromas of gyros, BBQ, “chicken on a stick”, French pastries, homemade ice cream and much, much more!  At 3:00pm the streets come alive with fun and excitement!  Craft vendors will line the courthouse square and South Sterling Street offering a plethora of art, jewelry, pottery, soap, candles and more!
The ever popular KidZone and TeenZone will open with ticketed rides and games along with a free craft area for children grades 5th and under, as well as a free performance stage featuring puppets, magicians, storytelling, and music!  For a full Pepsi Stage and Kids Stage lineup, visit www.downtownmorgnaton.com.  For the Teens and fun loving adults, the Teen Zone features a Bungee Jump, obstacle courses, and few surprise.
Purchase your tickets in advance to attend the Food and Wine Event, new for 2011.  Set on the beautiful lawn of The Cedars (100 South King Street) which is now home to Morganton Federal Savings and Loan, this special event will feature food demonstrations and pairings with wine and crafted beers hosted by Morganton native Chef Aaron Deal.
Friday night, the music begins on the Miller Lite Stage (featuring a beer garden) at 6:00pm and City Stage will host David Nail!  Nail, a country music singer, has had several hits including “Let It Rain”, “Red Light,” “Memphis,” and “Turning Home.”!
Start your Saturday with a 5k by participating in the Sunrise Run on the Greenway!  Be sure to pre-register on-line.  This year’s course has been certified and will be chip-timed!  Then head to the Festival where booths open at 9:00am with even more artists and crafters, hailing from more than 5 states.  Yard art, baskets, crafted toys, jellies, wines, clothing, carvings, baskets, plants, pottery and lots of jewelry can be discovered over 8 city blocks!  Civic organizations, crafters, artists and businesses are out on the streets waiting for the ever-popular festival shopper.  Throughout the day there are activities for the entire family. 
Saturday evening, the streets will again heat up with live music at the Miller Lite Stage hosting local favorites and City Stage will feature Rodney Atkins!  The finale to our 30th anniversary celebrations is Atkins who will be onstage at 8:30!  Atkins is best known for his singles, “If You’re Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows),” “It’s America,” “Watching You,” “These are My People” and so much more. ALL CONCERTS ARE FREE!
